In our obscurity – in all this vastness – there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us. - Carl Sagan

Our Story

The target as agreed by 195 countries to restrict global warming to 2°C relative to pre-industrial levels by 2100 is nothing short of daunting. Realising the importance to restrict global warming to 1.5°C, these countries further agreed to pursue efforts to restrict warming under 1.5°C. However, as a result of our incessant carbon intensive activities, we have already managed to warm the planet by 1°C since the pre-industrial era. At this rate, studies suggest that we could warm the Earth by 1.5°C as soon as 2030. Limiting warming to 1.5°C was claimed as a ‘herculean’ task by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and would require immediate and drastic changes to our energy, transportation, food and built environment, needless to say individual lifestyles. That said, the IPCC suggested that it is ‘possible’.

It has also been realised and widely accepted that climatic changes as a result of global warming that we are witnessing stems from human activities and the efforts to mitigate Climate Change are also underway, but progress has been too slow. Moreover, the narrative that often takes a back seat is that Climate Change is an ‘injustice’ issue, where the ones who are not responsible for it will bear the maximum brunt of it. While mitigation is mission critical, adaptation and resilience building efforts can not be ignored and kept for when it’s too late. We must start to curtail our emissions exponentially before ‘runaway Climate Change’ kicks-in. This slow progress can partly be attributed to lack of ‘actionable’ information and moreover to lack of tools that digest complex information and translate meaningful data into readily available and in most cases profitable sustainable actions across all domains (academics, governments, businesses & for individuals).

Integrated Climate Initiatives was founded with the goal to address these lacunae. To build resilience and amplify adaptation efforts where required the most, and to boost mitigation of climate change by empowering businesses and individuals with the right set of knowledge and tools to adopt sustainability. We believe unless sustainable development is mainstreamed and seen as an opportunity and not a set back to business-as-usual, it is highly unlikely that we will be able to restrict global warming to 2°C. This generation has been assigned with the opportunity of our lifetimes to transform the way we lead our lives, the way we conduct businesses, and the manner in which we govern, and to leave behind a legacy built upon the three pillars of sustainability. Through our combined knowledge of IT and sustainability, we believe we can help stakeholders achieve the targets and ensure sustainability is not seen as a restrictive, optional and dull activity, rather, an opportunity that helps us all grow and continue to support the beautiful conditions that support life on our beautiful planet.
